No matter where you live or travel to, birds are always around us to notice and admire. This website is designed for anyone who wants to learn more about the birds you encounter. Read my articles, teach an activity to a child or join me on a field trip. Whichever you choose, Birding Adventures wishes to share the wonder of birds with you.

ABOUT GEORGANN SCHMALZ
I grew up in the forests and fields in Niles, Illinois, a suburb twenty miles northwest of Chicago and obtained an undergraduate degree in biology from Northeastern Illinois University. I migrated south to Clemson University where I studied under Sidney Gauthreaux, Jr. After graduating with a master’s degree in zoology and ornithology in 1972, I began teaching at Fernbank Science Center in DeKalb County, Georgia, a career that lasted for 28.5 years with retirement on November 30, 2000. My position included teaching ornithology, ecology and animal behavior to grades K-12 along with numerous adult workshops with the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, the US Fish and Wildlife Service and the US Forest Service. I also organized and led birding trips throughout the United States, Central and South America and Africa.
I currently live north of Atlanta close to the North Georgia mountains. I do local birding trips, classes, consulting and programs on birding and pollinator gardens. You can contact me by CLICKING HERE
